I am NOT the centre of the Universe

Just recently....i was having a really good conversation with my bestest friend...about how, nowadays youths, tweens and even the twenty-somethings were so often inward looking... and everything is just 'me. myself. and I'. He also made me realize than even the TV programes, the new cartoons, the movies for 'kids' have characters that only concentrate on the individual character! every body wants to be like Hannah Montana or rather the actress' personal life or worse still, Zack Efron (whoever he is!). A four year old girl, told me one day, she wanted to be Hannah Montana!!!! she was only 4! what's she gonna do? wear lipstick and tight fitting leather pants and jacket and walk around the mall now? well she may...and what have these so-called 'examples' done to be followed so ardently? did they help the poor or fly to the moon? nooooooo they just looked good and pretty in their newest outfits and because of their good-looks had a lot of friends/fiends!!! worse still all they concentrated was how they looked, whether they were made happy that day or whether they got their prized 'catch' for the day or not!

where as in the 80s and 90s in comedies and kids shows, we never even bothered who were the characters or the actors or actresses....all we remember was the story line and the message the director of the movie/tv series was trying to tell the tv addicts. I don't remember who acted in 'different strokes' or 'the cosby show' or 'the famous five'......but all i remember was their good story lines and life's lessons on how to live as a community of people in this world! although, i've come across recently, good cartoons and movies like 'Up' or 'the story of desperoux' (i can't even spell the mouse's name!!!) that had really good story lines, and character building messages. of course.... these cartoons and movies won't make it to the highest top 10 movies, and probably won't last long. even transformers the cartoon which was loved due to the original cast of just a trailer that changed into optimus prime, is sadly....oh so sadly, adulterated and hollywoodified by the blasted female character which had no place and right to be in the movie! how sad!!! i know the boys were definitely NOT looking at the vehicles....but just talking about her after they saw the latest movie!!! how sad, again.

Even in blogs of some and books...people talk and talk and talk and write gazzillions of words about themselves, and how the future is so bleak for them...or how others should do things for them so that they should be comforted by acts of others. there is no such thing as 'what am i going to do for so and so to help them get tru the day?' what am i gonna do for the poor boy who just passed by me smiling his widest smile wearing only torn clothings, hoping i give him a penny for some sweets he's been eying for a few days?' or that lady who passed by me counting the few coins she had, so that she could buy a school bag for her std 1 child who was starting school the next day?'

I am NOT the centre of the world.....ppl, i think it's time to live knowing and realizing we're NOT the centre of the world.
and for all those who live sacrificial lives like our parents, pastors and achens and brothers and sisters, friends who are around me to remind me than i am not the centre of the universe.....kuddos to you!!! thank you for being my hanna montana and zack effron.

here's a good devotional from RBC. please read

copernican moment
Sep21by poh fang chia

He made the things we can see and the things we can’t see—such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world. Everything was created through Him and for Him (Colossians 1:16).
Psalm 33The Lord’s plans stand firm forever; His intentions can never be shaken (v.11).

In 1543, Nicolaus Copernicus published a theory that marked one of the starting points for the scientific revolution of the 16th century. His hypothesis was: The earth is not at the center of the universe.
Recently, I had what for me was a “Copernican moment.” I was reminded that I am not at the center of the universe. The world doesn’t revolve around me. When I’m busy, work still piles in. There are still needs to be met and family matters to attend to. In short, I say anew that the world doesn’t move at my pace, in my terms, nor in accord with my preferences.
Though we might wish it to be otherwise, life is not all about us. For the world was created to revolve around God, not people. In Psalm 33, we read that:
• All nature revolves around the Lord (vv.6-9). He assigned the sea its boundaries and locked the ocean in vast reservoirs. He spoke and the world began. It appeared at His command. It operates in accordance to the laws He has set.
• All nations revolve around the Lord (vv.10-12). All plans and schemes cannot stand up against God’s. Ultimately, it is the Lord’s plan that will stand forever. His intentions can never be shaken.
• All lives revolve around the Lord (vv.13-19). God sees the whole human race. He made our hearts, and He understands everything we do. And He has the power to intervene in our lives and deliver us from situations spinning out of control.
We need to live a God-centered life, not a self-centered one. As we revolve around Him today, let’s submit to His commands and follow His ways.
